About us

our story

A few words about us

1. “Nazarene” in the 1st-century sources

Berit Hadashah [renew covenant]

  • The term “Nazōraioi” (Nazarenes) appears in the Book of Acts.

  • Acts 24:5 records Paul being accused before Felix as:

“a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes

This tells us two important things:

  1. Early followers of Yahushua were recognized as a distinct Jewish sect, not a new religion.

  2. Outsiders labeled them Nazarenes, likely connected to Yahushua’s association with Nazareth and possibly to deeper Hebrew meanings.

2. Nazarenes as a Jewish Messiah movement

The Nazarenes were:

  • Torah-observant Jews

  • Believers that Yahushua was the Messiah

  • Observers of Sabbath, dietary laws, and festivals

  • Centered in Jerusalem and Judea before 70 CE

They are often associated with:

  • James (Ya‘aqov), the brother of Yahushua, who led the Jerusalem assembly

  • The original apostolic community, before Gentile Christianity developed

Early church historians confirm this.

3. Meaning of “Nazarene”

There are three overlapping ideas behind the term:

  1. Geographical

    • From Nazareth, Yahushua’s hometown

  2. Messianic / Prophetic

    • Linked by some to Isaiah 11:1:

“A Branch (Netzer) shall come forth from the stump of Jesse”

    • “Netzer” (נֵצֶר) is phonetically close to Nazarene

  3. Set-apart / consecrated

    • Though different from a Nazirite (Nazir) vow, later readers often confused the terms

vision

Am Yisrail [the people of Yisrail] scattered around the world is fulfilling the very prophecy Ezekiel said would happen in the latter days: many nations are hungry for Torah, we are the salt of the earth, and it is our responsibility to shed light of the Torah in these uncertain times.
